CUPE Local 3908 is a proud member of the Trent and Peterborough communities as well as the CUPE community. From time to time we receive requests from local organizations for financial support. Here are a some of the donations we have made over the last six years.
In February, 2008, on behalf of our membership, the executive committee of CUPE 3908 voted to make a $500.00 contribution to the defense fund that has been established to support
Chief Paula Sherman, a Trent University Professor and member of the
Ardoch Algonquin First Nation in Eastern Ontario. Sherman was charged with contempt of court, sentenced to six months in jail and fined $15,000 by Superior Court Justice, Douglas Cunningham. To read the press release, click

Beginning in January 2008
four $500 scholarships will be offered each year to CUPE Local 3908 Unit 2 members studying at Trent University. Eligibility for these scholarships is based on proven financial need and satisfactory academic standing. The scholarships were created by a $25,000 donation from CUPE Local 3908 which was matched by the provincial government's Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). The resulting endowed fund will grow in perpetuity and the interest earned on the $50,000 investment will support the four annual scholarships in perpetuity. Download Trent University Press Release

On February 3, 2008 CUPE Local 3908 sponsored
International Solidarity: Labour And Social Justice In Palestine
The event was organized by the Peterborough Coalition for Palestinian Solidarity (PCPS) and held at Trent University.CUPE Ontario's Resolution 50 supports boycott, divestment and sanctions to end Israel's apartheid practices.

In 2007 CUPE Local 3908 donated to local NDP and Green Party political campaigns as well as the local Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) campaign. Vote for MMP is a multi-partisan citizens’ campaign to support the Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system and was presented to Ontarians in a historic October 10, 2007, electoral reform referendum.
In July 14 of 2006 it was decided that CUPE 3908 would support the
Cooked and Eaten Reading Series with $200.
On September 12, 2006 CUPE donated $200 to Beats and Braids presented by
O’Kaadenigan Wiingashk on September 20th to 24th 2006 at Market Hall.
That same meeting, the executive agreed to donate $200 to
Linda Slavin’s campaign for Mayor of Peterborough.
On September 28, 2004 CUPE donated $2,500 [from the 2003-04 operating surplus] to the PR Community and Student Association specifically to be applied against the capital cost of purchasing Sadlier House.
On November 16 2000 CUPE 3908 donated $200 to
York University CUPE Local 3903, $100 to the Tent City action specifically.
